It’s a.. baby!

My second born.

My sweet, sweet little love.

Born at 38.5 weeks, you were born a Mama’s baby.

You latched like a champ.

You looooved to snuggle your Mama (you still do).

I had all of these ideas, these “plans” for you based on your #asab.

The truth is, most parents do. That isn’t to say it’s wrong - it’s just in our maternal makeup to think about all the “things” you may do with your life. Who you might date. Who you might befriend. How your personality will develop over time.

I had another Mama reach out to me a few months ago to ask about my feelings regarding “gender reveal parties”.

Only about 0.6% of the US population is #transgender, so it’s fair to assume your child won’t be.

However, one thing rubs me the wrong way, and it only started to rub me the wrong way recently because I’ve taken the time to really think this through.

These are not “gender” reveal parties.

Gender is a social construct.

Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviors and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl or boy, as well as relationships with each other. As a social constructgender varies from society to society, is fluid, and can change over time.

So I guess what I’m saying is - call it what it is.

It’s a “sex reveal party”. Which now that I say it out loud, sounds worse!

But we need to come up with a better title.

Or better yet, just be thrilled to have a baby.

A healthy one. A safe one. A happy one.
