Trans Day of Visibility
Today is Trans Day of Visibility.
This day is dedicated to celebrating transgender and non-binary people and raising awareness of the discrimination they face worldwide; and at the same time it is a day of celebration for their contributions to society.
But as the mama of a sweet, innocent, beautiful six year old transgender daughter, I’m struggling with the “celebrating” piece of today.
Not because I don’t love and support and feel pride for our trans family - but because the weight of what’s taking place in the “United” States, feels anything but united.
To our trans brothers and sisters in Arkansas, South Dakota, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Montana, West Virginia, and all the other states and countries where your human rights are being taken away - I see you.
I will fight for you.
We will fight for you.
You are valid.
You are loved.
